The Art of Courtly Love rules are actively incorporated into the lives of Arvergus, Dorigen, and Aurelious in The Franklin?s Tale. The regulations that are most actively exhibited are, rule XIV, ?The easy attainment of love makes it of little value; difficulty of attainment makes it prized?, rule XXVI, ?Love can deny nothing to love?, and finally, rule XXXI, ?Nothing forbids one woman being loved by two men or one man by two women? …is never forbidden, is the final rule, rule XXI, exemplified in The Franklin?s Tale. This final rule in fact, summarizes the entire story. Two men in love with one woman; Aurelius and Arveragus are both head over boots for Dorigen, their maiden fair. Out of all thirty rules from the previous story, The Art of Courtly Love, these three were the most prominently regarded by all three main characters in The Franklin?s Tale.
