Compairing "war and peace" to "all quite on the western front"

Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front, a novel set in World War I, centers around the changes wrought by the war on one young German soldier. Tolstoy doesn't hide his negative feelings to the social class that belonged in the czar's circle, and likes the lower classes. He is fascinated by the courage and deep patriotism of the Russian peasants.
