Although Aziz and Fielding put an end to their friendship, the end of the novel paves the way for a growing tolerance of other races which to some extent, is shown 70 years later by Zadie Smith. She concludes her novel and summarises this idea with the quote "the end is simply the beginning of an even longer story."
