During the mid-1800's there were many controversies that provoked the division of America, which included slavery, states rights, and preservation of the Union. These were the key factors which eventually led to the American Civil War. Perhaps one of the major events that sparked this division was the assault on Fort Sumter. Southerners assailed one
a lot to help free blacks, it didn't bring about racial equality. Many blacks were being abused, and treated unfairly. Other problems included the terrorist organizations, specifically the Ku Klux Klan. The North strived for nationalism but this was still a work in progress. Even after defeat many Southerners did not change their outlook on blacks or the Union. These constitutional and social problems helped cause the Civil War and even after they remained unresolved
