…others, one must suffer. Perhaps it is because people are afraid to suffer themselves and project their aspirations of epic acts through these supper people. Whatever the reason, authors know that suffering characters are more interesting and inspiring. Furthermore, readers seem to love and care about the Ascetics-Buddhas. It is still cruel, but understandable, why Raskolnikov, the main character in Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, goes through so much hardship and unselfish acts throughout the plot.
