As I crouched in the gloomy corner, I peered around me. Although the room was extremely bright it did not help my mood. The vivid green walls were closing in around me, preventing me from breathing. I gasped and squeezed my purple knees up against my heaving chest. The colours were swirling around in front of me making me dizzy and nauseous. I had once thought of this death trap as a safe house but …

…listened intently to her every move, trying to sense what she might do next. I heard her storming up the stairs; I shoved the box under the bed before she came in. I knew what was about to happen but what could I have possible done? I searched desperately around my room but I already knew there was nowhere to hide in this torturous place.
