From a young age, the French are taught to adhere to a certain schedule which helps them learn to be more independent people as they grow older and become adults. They would rather talk to each other in person than to chat on the telephone. When they do sit down face to face and talk, the subject of their discussion is usually one that challenges the mind. On the other hand we Americans we could spend the whole conversation talking about ourselves.
