Guy De Maupassant's "The Necklace".
In Guy De Maupassant's "The Necklace", the author uses various material objects to reveal Mathilde Loisel's superficial personality. Mathilde, "born, as if by error of destiny, into a family of clerks and copyists" always wanted to be a part of the elite in the Champs-Elysees. Mithilde, a woman with servants to do many of her chores would be considered by many modern women to have a pretty spoiled life. This to us a luxury, apparently
of her. She has a life that is not so lavish yet not so deprived, but she has a husband who loves her with all of his heart and would anything in his power to see his wife happy. And ironically the Loisel's could have had everything that Mathilde wanted if they would have made some sacrifices early on, saved their money, and worried about the important things rather than the in important material things.
