Heart of Darkness A Product of its Time

Heart of Darkness being written at the turn of the 19th century is a product of its time. During this time in history Imperialism was at its highest and Britain was everywhere as the saying goes, "The sun never sets on Great Britain", but during this time racism against minorities was at its highest aswell and Africans by many were considered by many to be inferior. In addition to this, the positive views towards Europeans in the text, both physically and intellectually in comparison to the natives highlights not only the difference between them but also serves to severely impair their image to the reader and almost force the reader believe Conrad and his racist view, but a smart reader can see around this, and instead accept what he/she believes to be true.
