Holden Caufield Criticism
Joe Olwig English III Criticism Paper "Longing for emotional support, Holden perversely trusts almost no one. He views his world, not incorrectly, as being full of "phonies"; often, he fantasizes about a solitary life as a self-sufficient deaf-mute." Holden Caulfield is quite the extraordinary character. Though Holden narrates in a cynical and jaded voice, he is actually very intelligent and carries sensitivity unlike most teenage boys. He finds the hypocrisy and spitefulness of the world
most people. Overall I feel that Holden is a very unique and fun character. His views on life may seem out of the ordinary sometimes, though, not always wrong. He presents himself to me as a young man of wisdom and independence. Though his trust for others is sadly not there, his distinctive views on personal and public affairs create such an honest character, that not to give him your greatest respects would be erroneous.
