How is Suspense and Tension Created in "The Monkey's Paw" and "The Red Room" by William Wyman Jacobs

In order to study pre 20th century coursework, we have analysed two short stories. I have chosen to write about "The Monkey's Paw" and "The Red Room" as examples of which create suspense and tension most successfully. The story of 'The Monkey's Paw' features a mysterious talisman which has magical powers, it grants its owner three wishes that comes with an enormous price. …evolution of monkeys to humans. The ending of The Monkey's Paw is a cliff-hanger leaving readers to decide what ending they would like.This also builds up suspense and leaves them thinking. The Red Room is similar, there is still an unsolved mystery, as to what is inside the dark red room, and whether the man's head was only playing trickes on him. The perfect ending of the stories which leave the readers asking questions.
