Frederick Clegg indeed just used Miranda Grey for his own personal satisfaction, and in the end, we see how he does this again. He is symbolic of his actions, and yet, it is through this, that readers choose a dominant reading and sympathise with Frederick Clegg, and choose an oppositional reading of Miranda Grey.
