This story by Ian McEwan is very interesting; it keeps you there as though you were an actual bystander. You can feel the sense of urgency about the characters worry, his concern for the lost child, the shopkeepers concern for his loss of earnings the longer the shop is shut. …especially at the end of the extract we had to read concerning his wife. I could really feel for Stephen, as he had to tell his wife he had lost their child. What must have been going on in his mind no one knows, but you can get a feeling of whatever if you are a father. I would really like to finish off this book now that's how much the writer has influenced me.
