Mariana Fruit Bat

The Mariana fruit bat (Pteropus marianus marianus) is aptly named after the location of its initial sighting, the Northern Mariana Islands. The latter is composed of fourteen marked islands, which include Saipan, Rota, Pagan, and Tinian. They were later prospected in the country of Guam which is currently an unincorporated territory of the United States. …Northern Maria Mariana Islands on January 6, 2005. The current population of the Mariana fruit bat is scarce, being irrevocably damaged by habitat destruction and Boiga irregularis managing a mere hundred bats on Guam. The Northern Mariana Islands, which managed to control Boiga irregularis endured less damaged; the total population is estimated at approximately 6,100 bats. The future for the bats seems optimistic; four new game preserves have been opened in Northern Mariana, and the colonies are thriving.
