Monkshood is a name of an endangered, beautiful, but extremely dangerous plant. It belongs to the Buttercup Family (Ranunculaceae). This plant is also known as Blue Rocket, Friar's hat, Helmet flower, Mouse bane, wolf bane, etc. Its scientific name is Aconitum napellus. Cattle grazing and trampling by livestock, human foot traffic, logging, maintenance of highways and power lines, misapplication of pesticides, quarrying, and road building also are responsible for Monkshood's risk of extinction. Habitat alteration, water pollution and deer browsing contribute to its rarity. There are not much of them left in this world, and it is predicted that it will become extinct in the year 2012
