Muli-lingualism in Hong kong...pros and cons

When I look around me, I see so many people whom are so similar. We're the bulk coming from the International Schools. We speak English in front of our friends and teachers. We talk in Cantonese to our parents. We take Mandarin, French or even both as an additional language at school. Many of us have Filipino domestic helpers, hence, our bit of exposure to Tagalog. …To get there, you don't need Chinese or French. But English, English is a necessity. It's cruel but true. Everything else can be put aside, but not English. That's just the way the world works. Think like this, and you're on the brink of losing your native cultural identity. And as for me, I think I've already lost it...and it's sad, sad and helpless. You can never preserve something that has already slipped away.
