During the earlier years of the rein of Queen Elizabeth I, people viewed women as being the weaker gender. Since a female, Queen Elizabeth I, ruled England in 1588, Spain wanted to take advantage of this opportunity by invading England. To defend this invasion of England by Spain, her troops were assembled at Tilbury, a town on the Thames River. In this time of dire need, Queen Elizabeth I of England gave a speech to her
believe in her. She uses diction to appeal to the pathos of her troops in order to gain their loyalty and trust. Along with diction, she compares her qualities to that of a man to earn the respect of her troops. And finally Elizabeth uses sentence structure to influence her troops to have faith in her leadership qualities. Even though she was a woman, she portrays herself as being courageous and daring like a man.
