The character's ethnicities might never become significant in the ways in which we are accustomed to dealing with race, but it's become apparent that the different races of creatures within the wizarding world will play an important part, and the theme of pure-blood vs. mudbloods seems to be taking precedence, so it is likely that race will remain a central theme in the development of Rowling's stories.
