Realisms View on Reputations

Realists believed that the reputation took too great a role in society. The reputation was held to be the deciding factor of a person's social status and this placed tremendous pressure upon the people. Some realists believed that the reputation was a controller of society but the stress was caused by the strain to uphold the reputation. The others believed that the reputation, in concept, was the root of the stress. However, they all agreed that the reputation, was a cause of undue stress and hardship.
