Similarities Between
Citizen Kane (1941) is a movie about the life of Charles Foster Kane (Orson Welles) told through the eyes and stories of close friends and distant ones. We never see Kane's life through the eyes of Kane. We watch as reporter, Thompson investigates the meaning of Kane's last word; Rosebud. "What does it mean?" Citizen Kane follows a plot that does not run chronologically from the start of Kane's life to the end of his life,
to front and a parallel sequence from front to back. The uses of cinematography throughout this film helps to keep the viewer questioning what characters are telling Shelby the truth or are lying to get him in trouble. In conclusion both films, although fifty-nine years apart use their main character's, Kane and Shelby, as they pursuit their lost past. The past that does not belong to money and greed, nor life before chaos and frustration.
