What is a Super Infection? Super infection results from organisms that become resistant to the drugs previously used to treat them. This condition has been speculated to be caused, in part, by the over use/misuse of antibiotic therapy. However, a person that is colonized has a 10% greater chance of developing VRE infection secondary to another illness. Treatment: None. The CDC has developed a two level system of isolation. 1. The first level is standard precautions. 2. The second calls for transmission precautions.
