Oedipus likes to hold himself as this overconfident and superior being because he possesses an intelligence that surpasses everyone in Thebes. Oedipus's intelligence is shown when Oedipus is leaving Cornith and comes across the city of Thebes. There he meets the monstrous being known as the Sphinx. …society such as ours that publicly, is neither sensitive nor reflective, they will feel alone and isolated in their predicament and in their unhappiness. That often adds far more misery to their situation, than their choice caused in the first place. Today's society can learn from their mistakes, which helps them make wiser choices in the future. All in all I think there is an awful lot today's society can learn from Oedipus and Creon.
