Unit sales were 20 per cent higher at 43,980 from 36,686 last year. The company described pre-tax profit in 1999 as "reasonable" but declined to provide exact figures. Despite expenses associated with the development of a new four-wheel drive vehicle, Porsche said it aimed to match last year's earnings in the current business year.
