In The Great Gatsby Fitzgerald uses the ideas of social status, the use of color, and eyes as clever symbols. …of ashes. They seem to represent in the story the eyes and almost the over looker that is your conscience and they seem to hold keys to people's ideas and thoughts. Symbolism is so important in this story and it seems to tie everything together and by the end of the novel a puzzle seems to have all the pieces and the picture looks so realistic that it leaves a lasting image inside your mind.
