Although there are many more significances concerning the main characters Beloved, Sethe, and Paul D., each character illustrates the life the other through an alternative perspective throughout the novel. Lack of any character's involvement ceases to express the theme of novel. Though the characters are exceedingly different each has something the other needs to become themselves spiritually and symbolically.
