In the early ages, you are sheltered from the hardships of adulthood. One would like to stay young, so they try to shelter their young as long as possible from pain and suffering. This rings true in both of Hawthorne's short stories, "The Maypole of Merry Mount," and "My Kinsman, Major Molineux." The main characters in both stories were barely considered adults in their society. Edith and Edgar are about to be married in an
own ways and sometimes it benefited them and at others, it hurt them. Robin stood out for the fact he was persistent and courageous. His traits and most of his actions were admirable. He did walk away in the end and did not want to be associated with Major Molineux, but he stayed the whole day looking for him and was let down that the Major he knew was not really the one that existed.
