Tragic Heroes of Macbeth A tragic hero is a main character of a tragedy who begins with greatness, but is endowed with a tragic flaw which causes a drastic fall from greatness. Despite his/her fall from greatness, they usually win a moral victory in the end. They are responsible for their own fate, and they realize the folly of their ways, but at a time when their mistake is irreversible. They typically face their
set upon him. He did not have to chance to accept and face his fate-- his death, as it were. However, in the end he was a victor, for though he was dead his memory haunted Macbeth, and his descendants became kings as the prophecy foretold. Mainly because of this victory, which is greater than a small moral victory that tragic heroes sometimes win in the end, he cannot really be considered a tragic hero.
