The Witches of Macbeth

Many scholars over the years have analysed these characters, and looked for the deeper symbolism in Shakespeare's Macbeth and it's characters and themes. Appearance versus reality is one of the biggest themes in Macbeth, and it is greatly authenticated by Lady Macbeth and the three witches. …and so on and so forth. The wheel of lies begins with them, and ends with them. While the men and women of the play blatantly lie to all around them, one must note that neither the Witches, nor Lady Macbeth, lied during the play; they merely play with the truth to fit their hidden agenda. Whether mischievousness or evil intent is unknown, however it certainly makes one think twice before being mendacious ever again.
