Throughout his life Javert has lived by the law. Not thinking that people could change he was soon to realize that he himself was changed. Javert grew up with a prostitute as a mother and a father as a thief, and he saw all this and he realized that he didn't want to become any thing like them. He hated this so much because when he said "My mother was a prostitute, my father was
to his fate and dues to a changed man. Overall I think that Javert took his life away because he never saw himself break the rules but in his case he has to give Jean Valjean a second chance because he saw that he was really a changed man. Javert never ever broke the rules, and all that he based his life on was catching Valjean, but in the end Jean Valjean was his undoing.
