Overall I think that Javert took his life away because he never saw himself break the rules but in his case he has to give Jean Valjean a second chance because he saw that he was really a changed man. Javert never ever broke the rules, and all that he based his life on was catching Valjean, but in the end Jean Valjean was his undoing.
