This experiment will be an investigation into enzyme activity. Wherever enzymes are used one has to bear in mind that there are various factors which affect the enzyme activity. I will be investigating how different concentrations of the enzyme catalase affect the rate at which hydrogen peroxide is broken down into water and oxygen. In order of doing this different concentrations of liquid catalase that is gained from dried yeast will be added to a
reaction increases proportionally (as said above e.g. 1cm3 per 0.1cm3 more catalase used) up to a certain point, after which any further increase in enzyme concentration no longer increases the reaction rate. At this point all active sites of the enzyme are saturated with substrate. The hydrogen peroxide will now be the limiting factor. That means any further increase in the reaction rate will only occur when you increase the concentration of hydrogen peroxide.
