This essay is about Hamlet by William Shakespear and how the story would be different if Ophelia was closer to Hamlet in the social hierarchy of Denmark.

If Ophelia were in a similar social position to Hamlet, the entire story would change. Although, with Hamlet's personality, especially the smart comments he made towards the king, it is problematical to determine if he would feel restrained by her social rank. Although, the problem may never arise because if Ophelia is free to express her love for him, it is unlikely he would respond with such crude comments.
