All three of the main characters in the novel Ethan Frome bear responsibility in the tragedy. Each one made mistakes that led to the horrible accidents which should have killed Ethan and Mattie. In conclusion all three of the main characters in the novel Ethan Frome bear responsibility in the tragedy. Each one made mistakes that led to Ethan and Mattie almost killing them. If Zeena would have treated Ethan better, Mattie wouldn't have led Ethan on, and if Ethan would have honored his marriage than the tragedy would have never happened.
