What does it mean to be G-d's chosen people (Commentary on Chapter 19 of Shemot or Exodus)

…is obvious that there really is not a choice. You must accept Gods commandments because if you do not you will be alone in the desert. Who would provide you with food, shelter and protection? The truth is that although this covenant with God benefits the Israelites it was forced upon them and they had no choice but to accept. Is this freedom? That is up to each person to decide for himself or herself.
