Why did the Germans support the Nazis?

The situation in Germany during the 1920s was very different compared to its situation before the war. After the war had ended, economically, they were stripped of all their money and power due to reparations payments. Hitler banned countless parties, arrested thousands of communists and killed hundreds of people who opposed him yet the people of Germany were blinded and ignorant to these wrong doings because they simply needed hope and somebody to pull them out of poverty, unemployment and hunger.
